Dead-simple daily sales & inventory dashboard for non-technical small business owners

AI-discovered

Problem

Owners of businesses with 1-50 employees have no tool that answers basic daily questions: how many products we sold today, what is missing from stock, and how performance compares daily/monthly/yearly. Traditional BI tools (Power BI, Zoho Analytics, Looker Studio) assume analyst-level skills, so most owners fall back on spreadsheets or guesswork.

Opportunity

A plug-and-play analytics tool that connects to the POS/e-commerce stack a small business already uses and surfaces plain-language daily/weekly summaries (sales, stock alerts, trends) with zero configuration — think 'Morning Report' for shop owners.

Market analysis

The pain is real but the space is crowded from two directions: modern POS platforms (Lightspeed, Square, Shopify) already bundle daily sales dashboards and low-stock alerts, while dead-simple mobile trackers like Daily Sales Record serve the spreadsheet-averse for free. The only defensible wedge is the aggregation layer — one plain-language 'morning report' across whatever POS, e-commerce and inventory stack the owner already runs, which none of the incumbents do well because they only see their own data.

Market · Main-street retail, food service and micro-e-commerce owners with 1-50 employees; steady demand signal — POS analytics is a standard feature buyers compare, and the Reddit thread shows owners defaulting to spreadsheets.

Pricing · Small-business POS/analytics plans run $29-89/month, full retail POS $59-199+, with free tiers common at entry level; a cross-stack digest could plausibly charge $15-30/month.

Pros

  • + Plain-language daily digest is a genuinely different angle from dashboard-first BI tools.
  • + Cross-platform aggregation (POS + e-commerce + inventory in one report) is something no single incumbent offers.
  • + Recurring-pain product with a natural daily habit loop and retention.

Cons

  • − Every major POS already ships native sales and low-stock reporting, weakening the standalone case.
  • − Integration maintenance across many POS APIs is a permanent tax for a solo builder.
  • − Free mobile trackers (Daily Sales Record) already own the 'simple' low end.

The hard part of this idea is not the UI — it is integration maintenance. Every POS API (Square, Lightspeed, Clover, Shopify, Toast) changes quarterly, rate-limits differently and models inventory differently, so “zero configuration” quietly becomes a long tail of connectors that a solo builder must keep alive forever. The realistic MVP is one integrations done extremely well (e.g. Square, which has the cleanest API and a huge base of non-technical merchants) plus an email/SMS morning digest, sold as “we read your Square so you don’t have to.” A useful litmus test before writing any code: Square’s own daily summary email already exists, so the pitch has to be explicitly multi-source or it is already obsolete.
