Ambient personal AI operating layer

AI-discovered

Problem

Power users of AI tools are drowning in manual glue work: they re-explain context in every new chat, paste documents between Gmail, Calendar, Notion and Claude, and the elaborate 'command center' systems they build become yet another thing to maintain. A student with ADHD described owning every tool and still being the human middleware between all of them.

Opportunity

A zero-maintenance personal agent layer: a menu-bar/phone widget that builds the day's action list from Gmail, Calendar, GitHub and notes, nudges before deadlines, rolls unfinished items forward, and writes back completions automatically — the anti-Notion that never asks to be maintained.

Market analysis

The pain is real and relatable, but this is one of the most crowded categories in consumer software: Motion, Reclaim, Morgen and Akiflow already auto-build the day from tasks and calendar, and ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini are absorbing the same connective tissue natively at $20/month.

Market · AI power users, developers and ADHD individuals who live across Gmail, Calendar, GitHub and note apps; a segment with proven willingness to pay but many entrenched options.

Pricing · Comparables: Motion at $29/month, Morgen at $15-30/month, Reclaim free-to-$10/month, assistant subscriptions (ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro, Gemini Advanced) around $20/month.

Pros

  • + Genuinely felt pain: being the human middleware between tools resonates widely.
  • + Audience already pays $20-30/month for adjacent tools, so price anchoring exists.
  • + ADHD-friendly, zero-config positioning is underserved by work-first schedulers.

Cons

  • − Saturated category with funded incumbents (Motion, Reclaim, Morgen, Akiflow).
  • − Platform assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) are absorbing cross-app context natively for free with the subscription.
  • − Multi-provider OAuth across Gmail, Calendar, GitHub and notes is exactly the maintenance burden the product claims to eliminate — the builder inherits it instead.
  • − Write-back automation erodes trust fast the first time it completes or reschedules the wrong thing.

The cruel irony is that a product promising zero maintenance maximizes maintenance for its builder: every additional integration (Gmail, Calendar, GitHub, two note apps) is a permanent OAuth, API-change and security-review liability, and breadth is the whole pitch. The solo-viable version inverts the scope: go deep on one ecosystem — say GitHub plus calendar for developers — where the write-back surface is small enough to make trustworthy, and let the agent earn autonomy gradually instead of claiming it upfront. Without that, the honest competitor here is not Motion; it is Claude or ChatGPT adding one more connector next quarter.
